Alice Ingham, later Mother Mary Francis, gathered a small group of women around her in Rochdale to live a simple Third Order Franciscan rule, share all they had in common and serve the poor. In 1883, the Congregation was officially founded in Mill Hill, having moved there under the direction of Cardinal Herbert Vaughan to work in the newly founded seminary of the Mill Hill Fathers.

Local origins/ date of foundation:
The sisters have been in the Salford Diocese since their beginning, with many of them working in the Salford Rescue Society, Patricoft Convent and Children’s home as well as other activities. The sisters moved to Greenleach Lane in 1960.
